How to play

Then answer each multiplication by typing the answer; a correct answer advances automatically, so you never break your rhythm. Your score is how many facts you get right before time runs out. Why times tables still matter
Instant recall of the multiplication facts is the single biggest lever for confident mental arithmetic. When 7 × 8 = 56 comes without thinking, your mind is free to handle the harder parts of a calculation — the carrying, the estimating, the division. Fluency here pays off everywhere else, which is why these facts are worth over-learning until they're automatic.
Tips for the tricky ones
- The hardest fact is 7 × 8 = 56 for most people. A memory hook: 5, 6, 7, 8 → "56 = 7 × 8".
- The 9s have a pattern. The digits of each answer add to 9 (9 × 4 = 36, 3 + 6 = 9), and the tens digit is one less than the number you multiplied by.
- Doubling ladders. The 4 times table is the 2s doubled; the 8s are the 4s doubled.
- × 11 up to 9 just repeats the digit: 11 × 6 = 66.
