Blink

Dots flash for a heartbeat, then vanish. How many did you see? Trust your eyes, not your counting.

Ready?

A cluster of dots will flash for a moment, then disappear. Tap how many you saw. You don't have time to count them one by one — that's the point. Ten rounds, and each one flashes faster with more dots.

How to play

Hit Start. A group of dots flashes on the screen for a fraction of a second and then vanishes. Tap the button for how many you think there were. You score by how close your guess is — spot on for the full 100 points, still plenty for being one out. There are ten rounds, and each one shows more dots for less time, so you go from an easy glance to a genuine split-second read.

The trick is not to count. For small groups your eye just knows the number; for bigger ones you have to trust a quick estimate. Both are worth practising.

Tips for a higher score

Why Blink?

Seeing "how many" at a glance — without counting — is a real skill called subitizing, and it's the foundation of good number sense. It's the same knack that reads a handful of change or a near-empty car park in an instant. Blink is a quick, oddly addictive way to stretch it: a flash, a guess, and the little jolt of finding out how good your eye really is.

Frequently asked questions

Is Blink free?

Yes, completely free with no sign-up. It runs entirely in your browser and your best score is saved on your own device.

How is my score worked out?

Each round is worth up to 100 points, based on how close your guess is to the real number of dots. Ten rounds make a total out of 1000.

Am I supposed to count them?

You won't have time — that's the idea. Blink trains your instant sense of quantity, so a fast, whole-field impression beats counting.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Watch the flash, then tap the number you saw. It's built for touch as much as for a mouse.
